Major corruption cases brought to light (10:08 07/07/2020)

HNP - At a meeting of Hanoi People’s Council on July 6, Chief Judge of the Hanoi Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Huu Chinh reported the performance of the People’s Courts in the first six months of the year, as well as the targets for the remaining months of 2020. 

According to Chinh, during the first six months of the years, many major cases, especially corruption ones, have been brought to trial and received strong support from the public. 
For example, from December 16, 2019 - December 28, 2019, Hanoi’s court tried the corruption case at Mobifone; from January 2 - 13, it was the case of violating the regulations on the use of public properties in  Da Nang city; on January 14 the case of Ha Van Tham and Nguyen Hoang Long regarding the offenses in banking’s operation was brought to trial; on January 31, Bui Van Hai stood on trial for irresponsibility at Oceanbank causing severe consequences; among others. 
Besides, Hanoi’s courts have been focusing on retrieving property losses from corruption acts. For example, in the case of Mobifone, the state losses were estimated at over VND6.59 trillion (US$285.45 million) and the bribe money   was over US$6 million. However, the mentioned-amount has been retrieved in full after the trial was completed. 
Meanwhile, Hanoi’s courts also work to raise awareness among the public regarding the rule of laws, while promoting IT application during their operation. 
Chinh said in the final six months of the year, Hanoi People’s Courts would continue to strictly follow the resolutions of the central government and the National Assembly in ensuring the transparency and fairness during its operation.
