The event saw the attendance of Politburo member, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; Politburo member, Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue; member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang; PCC member, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung; Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc; Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dao Duc Toan; Chairwoman of the municipal Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Lan Huong.
In her opening speech, Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc said that the world and the country have still faced many difficulties and challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in economic development this year.
Along with the Africa swine fever outbreak, extreme weather phenomena, such as heat waves and droughts, are damaging production and livestock in Vietnam and Hanoi in particular, she added.
According to Ngoc, in an effort to overcome difficulties, Party organization, authorities and people of Hanoi have followed directions of the Party Central Committee on COVID-19 prevention and control while taking various measures to boost economic development and ensure social welfare.
Hanoi has so far put the COVID-19 pandemic under control, prevented the disease from spreading to the community, protected people's health and lives and promoted economic development.
With the viewpoint of "Fighting epidemic like fighting against the enemy”, and “Fighting inaction like fighting against the pandemic”, Hanoi People’s Council has worked with functional agencies to monitor the realization of guidelines and resolutions of the Party and State.
The council held two extraordinary meetings, one hearing and two inspection sessions so as to solve difficulties and shortcomings in carrying out the city’s political missions as well as in the fight against COVID-19.
Ngoc said that during the two-day session, the council will discuss and assess the city’s performance in socio-economic development, national security and defense, budget revenue and expenditure in the first half of 2020, and delineate key tasks for the second half of the year towards the set socio-economic targets.
At the same time, the council will also discuss and adopt 12 reports and 13 resolutions, the Chairwoman added.
