In attendance were Politburo member, Standing Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh; Politburo member, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh; Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man; PCC member, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh; PCC members and Deputy PMs Vu Duc Dam and Trinh Dinh Dung, and leaders of ministries, ministerial-level agencies.
From Hanoi, Politburo member, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue; PCC member, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung; Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc; Vice Chairmen of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen The Hung and Nguyen Doan Toan attended the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc reviewed the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic over the past time. He described the success in fighting the pandemic as an important premise for socio-economic development and national defense and security.
Mentioning COVID-19 pandemic’s devastating effect on the economy, especially in the second quarter of the year, Phuc asked localities to do their utmost to promote economic recovery and development.
Due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Vietnam reported gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 0.36% in the second quarter and 1.81% in the first half of 2020, the lowest growth rate in the last 10 years, but still the highest in Asia, the PM stated, noting that Vietnam is one of the first countries that has put the pandemic under control and enter the new normal.
Concerning major tasks for the coming time, Phuc requested for every measures to achieve the highest possible economic growth target.
The Government leader praised Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh and Long An for their efforts in attracting more investments to the localities, especially FDI attraction.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Planning and Investment presented an overview report on realizing Resolutions No. 01/NQ-CP, No. 02/NQ-CP, No. 42/NQ-CP and No. 84/NQ-CP, and Directive 11/CT-TTg as well as socio-economic achievements in the first half and solutions for the second half of 2020.
The Government Office in collaboration ministries and ministerial-level agencies gave report on the Government’s performance in the first six months, administrative reform, e-government building, implementation of social policies and COVID-19 prevention and control, among others.
The Government, ministries and localities also focused on discussing growth scenarios and working out solutions to fulfill the dual goal of fighting COVID-19 and boosting economic recovery and development in the remaining months of 2020.
