Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam chairs a teleconference on COVID-19 epidemic (22:31 26/02/2020)


HNP - Under the chair of member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, the Ministry of Health (MoH) held a video conference nationwide on February 25 to roll out the health work for 2020 and review the prevention of acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy and representatives of the city’s entities attended the event.

In 2019, the health sector tried its best to comprehensively complete all tasks, contributing to successfully implementing socio-economic tasks. 
 
This year, the health sector targets to reduce morbidity and mortality from disease, making significant contribution to increasing people’s life expectancy as well as improving basic health indicators. 
It has made  more effort to improve its capacity and efficiency, aiming to create a platform for the development of a fair, effective and sustainable health system. 
 
The health sector also strives to fulfill the target of expanding health insurance coverage to 90.7% of the population.
 
Regarding the COVID-19 prevention, MoH Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen affirmed, with drastic actions, Vietnam has timely detected and isolated those suspected of contracting the virus as well as effectively treated infected patients. 
 
However, the epidemic in foreign countries remains complicated, such as South Korea, Iran and Italy, among others, he emphasized, asking for the compulsory medical isolation for confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19.
 
Tuyen underlined the need to closely monitor the health of people, international students and visitors who come from epidemic-hit areas, such as China, South Korea. 
 
Those returning from infected areas must be isolated within 14 days, he stressed. 
 
The MoH official also requested to tighten medical control at all border gates, investigate and timely detect suspected cases. 
 
Tuyen recommended strengthening the communication of the epidemic evolution and measures against COVID-19 so that the public can be well aware of the disease. 
 
It is necessary to strictly handle cases of spreading false information about the new coronavirus, he requested
 
Tuyen noted that all localities should make plans in response to the new developments from the epidemic, and prepare full medical equipment for the fight against COVID-19.

Speaking at the teleconference, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy said that the capital city has drastically taken various measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 in line with instructions of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, the National Steering Committee on Covid-19 prevention and control and the MoH. 
 
As a result, Hanoi has zero detected cases of Covid-19. Seventy seven out of 78 suspected cases were confirmed negative with nCoV. 331 people have been isolated for health monitoring.
 
In the time ahead, Hanoi will continue implementing five measures against the Covid-19 epidemic, including dissemination on the disease, isolation of suspected cases, preparation for health facilities, environmental sanitation and inspection. 
 
Making conclusion at the event, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam said Vietnam has done a great work in controlling the Covid-19 outbreak.
 
Vietnam has proactively taken drastic actions to combat the epidemic, Dam stated, confirming that the country has publicly and transparently informed the Covid-19 infection so that the public can be aware of the situation and take preventive measures against the disease.
 
There have been 16 people infected with Covid-19 in Vietnam, all have been cured and discharged from hospital so far.
