The capital city welcomed about 362,000 foreign tourists and 968,000 domestic tourists in February. Tourism revenue was estimated at over VND5.58 trillion (roughly US$241 million), down 32% against the same period last year.
In the first two months of the year, the number of visitors to Hanoi reached 3.56 million, down 25% year on year, including 844,000 foreigners and 2.71 million domestic tourists.
According to the Department of Tourism, since the end of 2019, the Covid-19 outbreak has negatively affected the country’s economic growth, especially tourism sector.
To counter the impacts of the new coronavirus outbreak on the hospitality sector, in the time ahead, the department will request travel agencies, accommodation facilities and tourist transportation firms to pay special attention to ensuring safety for travelers.
Besides, the department will request the Municipal People’s Committee to approve a 30-second promotional video introducing the F1 race on CNN channel in 2020.
