Hanoi to learn Vinh Phuc’s experience in combating COVID-19 epidemic (10:57 19/02/2020)


HNP - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Head of the Municipal Steering Committee on prevention and control of acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) Nguyen Duc Chung chaired a video meeting on February 17 to review the COVID-19 epidemic prevention work in the capital city, as of 3.00 pm on the same day.

In attendance were Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Standing Vice Head of the Municipal Steering Committee Ngo Van Quy, and leaders of the city’s entities and localities. 

 

According to a report of the Department of Health, as of 3 pm on February 17, a total of 71,337 cases of COVID-19 infection had been recorded in 28 countries and territories worldwide. The death toll had reached 1,775, with 1,770 in mainland China. 
 
Vietnam had confirmed 16 cases, seven have recovered and been discharged from hospital so far. From February 13-17, no cases of acute pneumonia had been reported in the country. Notably, Khanh Hoa Province is eligible to declare the end of the COVID-19 epidemic. 
 
To date, not a  single case  of Covid-19 had been detected in Hanoi. The city has quarantined 68 people suspected of catching the new coronavirus. 66 cases were confirmed negative with nCoV, others are waiting for test results. Currently, a total of 336 people are isolated for monitoring in the community. 
 
According to Deputy Director of the Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh, Hanoi authorities decided to give students in the capital city another week off by extending their school break through February 23, 2020 in a bid to prevent the possible spread of the novel coronavirus (nCov). 
 
Schools and education establishments have disinfected chairs, desks, classrooms and their campus. 
 
Regarding five preventive solutions against the epidemic, Hanh highly appreciated the district’s strict implementation of isolation measures for suspected cases. 
 
Hanoi has prepared full medical equipment and human resources for the epidemic prevention, he said, adding district/township Steering Committees have also proactively and drastically taken actions against the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. 
 
Hanh also pointed out the potential risk of Covid-19 spreading in the city and asked for more drastic implementation in the time ahead.
 
Addition, districts have strictly implemented guiding documents of the city and the central level on Covid-19 prevention and control.
 
According to the leader of Dan Phuong District, the district has detected and isolated 12 people coming from epidemic-hit areas of Vinh Phuc Province while strengthening the communication on preventive measures among locals. Gia Lam District has also isolated ten returnees from infected areas as regulated. 
 
Making conclusion at the meeting, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung praised the city’s drastic participation in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease. 
 
He suggested the Department of Health should learn more from Vinh Phuc’s experience in combating the COVID-19 disease. 
 
The city’s entities and localities need to comply with instructions of the city and the central level on disease prevention and control, with the focus on strengthening the communication on the disease and timely implementing isolation measures, Chung noted. 
 
The Chairman also urged the Department of Health to take prime responsibility and coordinate with the Department of Education and Training to disseminate about the disease among teachers and students. All schools are requested to disinfect their facilities to ensure safe environment when the classes resume. 
 
Chung also asked for close surveillance on returnees from Singapore and Japan.
