Hanoi rolls out COVID-19 epidemic prevention (16:38 14/02/2020)

HNP - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Head of the Municipal Steering Committee on prevention and control of acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) Nguyen Duc Chung chaired a video meeting on February 12 to review on the COVID-19 epidemic prevention in the city, as of 3.00 pm on the same day.

In attendance were Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Standing Vice Head of the Municipal Steering Committee Ngo Van Quy, and leaders of the city’s entities and localities. 


According to the Department of Health, as of 3 pm on February 12, a total of 45,170 cases of Covid-19 infection had been recorded in 28 countries and territories worldwide. The death toll had reached 1,115, with 1,113 in mainland China. Vietnam had confirmed 15 cases, six have recovered so far.


No case of Covid-19 had been detected in Hanoi. The city has quarantined 56 people suspected of catching the new coronavirus. 54 cases were confirmed negative with nCoV, others are waiting for test results. 739 people are isolated for monitoring. 


Deputy Director of the Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh pointed out the potential risk of Covid-19 spreading in the city and asked for stronger measures against the epidemic in the time ahead. 
According to Hanh, the heath sector in collaboration with the Police has prepared isolated areas for Vietnamese people returning from epidemic-hit areas while giving detailed guidance on environmental sanitation, detoxification and disinfection. 
Meanwhile, districts have strictly implemented guiding documents of the city and the central level on Covid-19 prevention and control.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy requested the health sector along with the city’s entities and localities to continue to take preventive measures as instructed by the city and the central level. 
Making conclusion at the meeting, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung highly appreciated the city’s participation in the fight against the novel coronavirus. 
Hanoi has prepared 3,000 beds for patients in districts and disseminated the Covid-19 prevention measures among locals, he said, adding the city has drawn up plans to cope with the worst-case scenario. 
To prevent the spread of the Covid-19, Chung asked schools to disinfect facilities on February 15-16 and comply with instructions of the Health Ministry to ensure safe environment when the classes are resumed. 
Regarding the outbreak of H5N6 bird flu in Chuong My District, the Chairman requested the district to take drastic measures to combat the disease.
