At the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of Hanoi Federation of Labor Dang Thi Phuong Nga said the organization is managing 45 trade unions at the immediately inferior level and 26 grassroots trade unions with a total of 610,000 members.
In 2019, under the instruction of the General Labor Confederation and Hanoi Party Committee, the Hanoi Federation of Labor has achieved significant results.
As of present, 2,150 enterprises having trade unions signed collective labor agreements with employees, or 58.32% of the total; trade unions at various levels hold 16 meetings between employers and workers; cooperating to organize 46 meetings regarding labor policies for employees in the area.
Moreover, the Hanoi Federation of Labor also cooperated with related government agencies in ispecting 220 enterprises regarding the law compliance in labor, social insurance, law on trade unions, food safety; checking 820 enterprises’s compliance with laws regarding female workers, in turn timely addressing concerning issues and ensuring lawful rights of workers.
In 2019, the Federation provided financial support for 65,000 members with hardship for a combined amount of VND40 billion (US$1.71 million); supporting the reparation and building 95 houses. In the Lunar New Year holiday of 2020, trade unions at various levels in Hanoi spent over VND50 billion (US$2.14 million) transporting 95,000 workers to their respective hometown for free; presenting 75,000 Tet gifts for members with hardship.
After the Lunar New Year, nearly 98% workers came back to enterprises.
In order to enhance efficiency in operation of trade unions, Phuong said the Federation would focus on realizing the role of grassroots union in negotiating, signing and supervising the compliance of collective labor agreement, targeting 75% of enterprises having trade union to sign the collective labor agreement.
Regarding efforts to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (nCoV) outbreak, Hanoi Federation of Labor has frequently updated information regarding the outbreak to workers, encouraging the use of face masks and checking the body temperature before working.
Hanoi Transportation Company frequently washes and sterilize cars and providing medical face masks for passengers for free. As of February 4, 2020, there have not any case of nCoV infection among members of trade unions.
Vice Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thang Hang commended strong efforts of Hanoi Federation of Labor during the past few years, in turn contributing to the development of Hanoi.
Hang noted in 2020, the Federation should continue to expand the presence of the Communist Party of Vietnam and trade unions among foreign invested companies.
Chairman of Vietnam General Federation of Labor Tran Dinh Khang said the primary trade union is responsible for realizing the rights and benefits of workers, which is one of the key objectives in 2020.
