Stronger measures adopted to prevent spread of coronavirus (16:10 12/02/2020)


HNP - Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Vice Head of the Municipal Steering Committee on prevention and control of acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV) Ngo Van Quy chaired an online meeting with heads of the city’s entities and localities citywide on February 10 on the prevention and control of the nCoV in the city, as of 3.00 pm on the same day.

According to Deputy Director of the Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh, as of 3.00 on February 10, no cases of nCoV have been detected in Hanoi. Currently, the city has quarantined 53 people suspected of catching the new coronavirus, including seven coming from China's Wuhan and 42 from other places in China, and four Vietnamese working in Noi Bai International Airport. 49 cases were confirmed negative with nCoV, others are waiting for test results.

 

Over the past time, the health sector’s working teams have inspected the disease prevention work in medical facilities. At present, Hanoi has a total of 3,342 beds to receive, quarantine, monitor and treat nCoV patients. 
 
The health official underlined the need to continue taking drastic measures against the coronavirus epidemic, including closely supervising returnees from epidemic-hit areas, timely detecting, isolating infected or suspected nCoV cases.
 
The health sector has maintained 24/24 operation of emergency phone numbers to receive and handle information about the spread of the nCoV. 
 
At the meeting, representative of the Department of Culture and Sports said the sector has suspended all festivals in accordance with the Prime Minister’s Public Telegraph on combating the respiratory disease. 
 
Meanwhile, the Department of Education and Training has directed schools to monitor students’ health and disinfect classes and functional rooms on February 15-16.
 
Along with efforts of the city’s entities, news agencies have also updated the disease situation and disseminated preventive measures against the spread of the nCoV among locals. 
 
According to leaders of districts, all localities have strictly implemented guiding documents of the city and the central level on prevention and control of nCoV. Particularly, the localities have disinfected schools and relic sites, isolated suspected people, carried out communication campaigns to raise public awareness on the epidemic prevention work, provided training courses for health workers, among others. 
 
Making conclusion at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy stressed the complicated evolution of the disease in the time ahead and asked for more drastic measures as well as the participation of the entire political system in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
 
He urged the city’s entities and localities to continue to implement five major measures, such as supervising, isolating, investigating, zoning and treating patients. 
 
For those coming from epidemic-affected areas, they must be treated as infection cases in hospitals as regulated, Quy noted. 
 
The Vice Head of the Municipal Steering Committee also asked for strictly implementation of isolation measures as well as detoxification and disinfection in localities. 
 
He assigned the Health Department in collaboration with district authorities to disinfect all classes and schools, disseminate preventive measures as instructed by the Ministry of Health, and prepare full human resources and medical equipment for combating the epidemic.
 
All-level Steering Committees need to proactively roll out the disease prevention work, he urged.
