Hanoi ready to combat coronavirus epidemic (14:59 07/02/2020)

HNP - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee and Head of the Municipal Steering Committee on prevention and control of acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV) (the Municipal Steering Committee) Nguyen Duc Chung hosted an online meeting on February 5 on the prevention and control of the nCoV in the city, as of 3.00 pm on the same day.

Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Vice Chairman of the Municipal Steering Committee Ngo Van Quy along with heads of the city’s entities attended the meeting.


According to Deputy Director of the Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh, as of 3.00 on February 5, no cases of nCoV have been recorded in Hanoi. So far, the city has quarantined 37 people suspected of catching the new coronavirus, including seven from China's Wuhan and 26 from other places in China, and four Vietnamese working in Noi Bai International Airport. 31 out of them were confirmed negative with nCoV, others are waiting for test results.


He stated the health sector would continue to tighten surveillance on passengers at Noi Bai International Airport so as to timely detect suspected cases.


Besides, districts in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training have launched campaigns to clean environment with disinfectant spray in schools, relic sites, bus stations and public areas. 


Giving a report at the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Tran Thi Van Anh said the department has issued guiding documents urging districts and towns to strictly implement the Government’s Decree 110. 
The department also worked with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and localities to review the cleaning work at relic sites. Meanwhile, Director of the Department of Tourism affirmed tour operators have strictly executed the city’s instructions on nCoV prevention and control. The Department of Industry and Trade also checked the production of medical masks to meet local demand.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy requested the city’s entities to closely coordinate to effectively take preventive measures. 
He assigned the Department of Health in collaboration with the Capital High Command to prepare for the building of field hospital. 
Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung called on the entire political system to join the effort to prevent the break of the nCoV. He also asked departments, sectors and localities to prepare for the worst-case scenario. 
To roll out the following tasks, the Chairman urged the entities to strengthen the communication to raise public awareness, and clean the environment. 
He also requested the Department of Industry and Trade to enhance inspection and drastically handle acts of speculative trading of medical supplies for illicit gains.
