Tourism Department takes action to prevent nCoV-caused acute respiratory disease (11:11 05/02/2020)
According to the statistics of the Department of Tourism, due to climate impacts and the outbreak of the nCoV-caused acute respiratory disease, the number of visitors to Hanoi on the occasion of tradition New Year (Tet) holiday decreased slightly.
In January, 2020, Hanoi served 2,383,446 tourists, down 3.5% compared to the same period last year.
During nine-day Tet holiday, from January 23 - 31, the number of foreign visitors staying overnight reached 86,844, a decrease of 13% from the same period last year.
Carrying out guiding documents of the city and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism on solutions to curb the spread of the nCoV, the Department issued documents urging travel agencies to strictly take preventive measures.
Tour operators have also executed the guidance of the Central level and the city on suspending the reception of visitors from epidemic-infected areas; closely monitoring the tourists’ itinerary and health situation; timely report suspected cases; proactively update and disseminate disease information, among others.
Speaking at the conference, Director of the Tourism Department Tran Duc Hai asked the Hanoi Tourism Association and travel businesses to continue strengthening the communication on the disease among locals and visitors; comply with regulations and recommendations of the Ministry of Health and functional agencies to combat the epidemic.
