Vietnamese War Veteran Association of Hanoi marks 30th anniversary of establishment (08:57 03/12/2019)


HNP - The Vietnamese War Veterans' Association (VWVA) of Hanoi held a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the VWVA’s establishment and receive Independence Order, second class on December 2. Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong sent a flower basket to the event.

In attendance were Hoang Trung Hai, Politburo member, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly deputy delegation of Hanoi; Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Council; Major General Nguyen Quoc Duyet, Commander for the Hanoi Capital Command; Major General Nguyen Ngoc Trien, Commissar of Hanoi Capital Command. 
 
The VWVA was established on December 12, 1989 as an important historical milestone in political life, fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of war veterans throughout the country.

In recent ten years (2009-2019),  the association has fostered its members to comply with Resolution No.09 of the Politburo (tenure 9) and Conclusion No.66 of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat (tenure 10) on strengthening the Party’s leadership in the veteran affairs for the new period.
 
Additionally, the association has disseminated and strictly implemented the Party’s guidelines and the State’s laws.
 
All-level branches of the association  have also worked with authorities, the Fatherland Front, political and social organizations to effectively carry out grassroots democracy regulations and combat social evils. 
 
Notably, the association has joined social supervision and criticism, law dissemination and education while serving as an advisor in building new style rural areas, civilized urban areas and maintaining national security and defense, among others. 
 
Besides, the association has raised funds to build 556 gratitude houses, and provide loans to 31,668 members. 
 
To date, the association has a total of 270,000 members and 5582 chapters.
 
During 30 years of establishment and development, the association received many noble rewards from the Party and State, such as Independence Medal, third class (in 2009); three Labor Medals, first and second class; the Government’s emulation flags; the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit, among others. 
 
On the occasion, the State President presented the Independence Medal, second class to the association.

Addressing the event, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai congratulated the VWVA’s achievements in recent years. 
 
He hoped the association would promote noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, renew its operation, develop its membership and improve the capacity of officials to meet the requirement of the task in new situation, join the building of the Party and authorities, and realize President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings in his testament, among others.
 
Hai also expressed his belief the association would make the impressive development in the time ahead.
