The event attracted the participation of more than 7,000 professional and amateur athletes, including over 1,500 foreigners.
The race started at No. 59 Dinh Tien Hoang Street (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), with 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km categories.
Participants ran through major tourist landmarks such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi Opera House, West Lake, Long Bien Bridge, Hanoi Flag Tower, Temple of Literature, and Tran Quoc Pagoda, among others, creating a unique route through the heritages of Hanoi.
According to Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF), the VPBank Hanoi Marathon (VHM) has been certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), becoming an official international marathon tournament.
This run was also included in the official competition system of Vietnam Athletics Federation.
To Van Dong, Director of Hanoi’s Department of Culture and Sports stressed that the VPBank Hanoi Marathon has become an international cultural-sport event, contributing to the dissemination of Hanoi’s culture, tourism and food to the world.
For each km or each photo at the VPBank Hanoi Marathon - Run & Share competition, VPBank will contribute VND5,000 to one of the five charity funds chosen by participating athletes including the funds “For a Strong Heart” of (Hanoi Heart Hospital), "The Pair of Loving Leaves", "Thien Nhan and Friends", "Operation Smile", and “We help talents”.
