Hanoi launches fixed blood donation spot at Thanh Xuan district (16:18 12/10/2019)

HNP - National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) and Hanoi’s Department of Health jointly launched the second fixed  blood donation spot at medical station located in Nhan Chinh ward, Thanh Xuan district on October 10.

At the ceremony.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Bach Quoc Khanh, director of the NIHBT, said the launch of the fixed  blood donation spots in Hanoi is to realize the instruction of the National Steering Committee for Voluntarily Blood Donation Mobilization and the Ministry of Health regarding the promotion of blood donation activities towards greater efficiency, quality and sustainability.

The fixed blood donation spot is expected to take advantage of Hanoi’s large population, which  has huge potential  of donating blood.

The people could donate blood frequently and in a convenient way, forming a habit of blood donation and checking health periodically (through the selection of gift such as health analysis package).

At the same time, this is also an opportunity for the NIHBT to assist medical stations in wards and districts in achieving greater quality in technological application.

At the first fixed blood donation spot in Hoan Kiem district, nearly 100% of blood donors at the end of June came back for blood donation after being reminded by the NIHBT. Some even encouraged friends and family members to donate blood and check their health.

Over the past few years, blood donation activities have attracted large number of donors in Hanoi. In 2018, blood donors gave 223,000 units of blood. However, the amount did not meet the high demand for treatment, especially as many hospital at state level are located in Hanoi. As such, the amount of blood units received are not only serve the needs for health treatment of people in Hanoi, but also from the northern area and other cities/provinces.

Similar to other provinces across Vietnam, the rate of donors coming back for second blood donation in Hanoi is around 40%, while the majority of blood received is based on the blood donation programs of schools, local agencies and enterprises.

With the launching of the second spot, Khanh expected this would become a go-to destination for people in Thanh Xuan district sharing their valuable drops of blood to patients in need, and for the donors themselves to have  opportunities to have their health checkups  periodically.

Vice Chairman of Thanh Xuan People’s Committee Le Mai Trang said along with the blood donation campaign of Hanoi, the campaign in Thanh Xuan district has been highly regarded by the city, and remains one of the districts in Hanoi with the highest amount of units of blood received.

In the first nine months of 2019,  a total of 7,000 people in the district have registered for blood donation, who gave  4,531 units of blood, reaching 181% of the target.

The blood donation campaign in Thanh Xuan district has been duplicated and expanded with various forms: each ward and commune is a spot of blood donation; a street spot of donating blood; families with members donating blood; club of blood donors; Donating blood among public servants and the armed forces  stationed in Thanh Xuan district, among others.
