Vietnam Red Cross Society works with Hanoi (16:41 10/10/2019)


HNP - A team of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) led by its President Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu had a working session with Hanoi City on humanitarian activities on October 8.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu and leaders of the city’s entities hosted the delegation. 
 
Over the past years, the Hanoi Red Cross Society has received the attention and support from the municipal Party organization and authorities to  its activities. 
 
Via various practical and effective movements, the Red Cross Society has made great contribution to realizing humanitarian policies of the Party and State, and Hanoi City. 
 
During ten-year implementation of the Law on Red Cross Activities, the Hanoi Red Cross Society has provided humanitarian aid worth VND 1.8 trillion (roughly US$78.2 million) for various activities such as emergency aid, healthcare and disaster prevention. 
 
In the next period, the municipal Red Cross Society will focus on consolidating its organizations more professional, acting as a bridge in operating humanitarian activities; strengthening the communication to mobilize resources; gradually expanding its humanitarian models; and giving assistance to vulnerable people and those in difficult circumstances; contributing to carrying out social welfare policies of the Party and State. 
 
Speaking at the working session, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu stressed the important role of the Red Cross Society in launching humanitarian activities. 
 
Making conclusion at the session, VRCS President Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu appreciated the support from the Hanoi authorities to the municipal Red Cross Society in implementing Law on Red Cross Activities, Directive No. 43-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, and the Government’s resolutions and directives on humanitarian work. 
 
She also lauded the achievements of the Hanoi Red Cross Society in carrying out humanitarian activities, such as Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims, voluntary blood donation, among others.
 
Thu requested the city authorities to continue creating optimal conditions for the Red Cross Society to promote its important role in the humanitarian work.
