Hanoi War Veterans’ Association holds 6th patriotic emulation congress of “Exemplary War Veteran” (07:12 07/10/2019)
Over the last five years, the campaign “Exemplary War Veterans” of Hanoi War Veterans’ Association has been revising its operation model to serve the purpose of being major motivation for individuals and groups fulfilling responsibilities and tasks of the Association.
Notably, the campaign encouraged members and staffs of the Association to promote the qualifications of “Uncle Ho’s soldier”, actively participating in effort building and protecting the Communist Party of Vietnam and the government, in turn maintaining stability of Hanoi’s political system.
Specifically, during the five-year period, members and staffs of the Association submitted 15,605 recommendation for Party and government building; submitting 7,566 recommendations for drafting socio-economic development plans at provinces/cities, among others.
The patriotic emulation campaign also created motivation for uniting and gathering different generations of war veterans into the Association, building a strong and transparent War Veterans’ Association. In the last five years, the Association has admitted 58,006 new members, bringing its total members to 271,000.

Additionally, the campaign helped members to thrive in economic activities, aiming to raise living standards and poverty reduction. As of present, a total of 2,542 business units with thousands of families of war veterans have adopted business models of cooperative, enterprise, farming, among others. From 2014 to June 2019, War Veterans’ Association of various levels have mobilized supports and financial resources from members to build 524 houses for needy war veterans .
Moreover, the association also strives to enhance efficiency in activities supporting members to do business, create jobs and increase income.
Total outstanding loans of Vietnam Bank for Social Policies as of June 30, 2019 reached VND1.14 trillion (US$49.1 million), up 190.4% against the end period of the 4th term); the gratitude fund with contribution from members reached VND95.7 billion (US$4.12 million), averaging VND469,000 (US$20) per person. These financial resources helped 32,179 members to access fund for production and business activities, creating jobs for nearly 40,000 people. The number of members under poverty decreased to 4,121 households over the years.
The Association also pushed forwards with campaign promoting “The whole nation unites to build new style rural areas”. From this campaign, a number of new models was introduced, including “War Veterans donated lands and effort to build new style rural areas”, resulting in 24,179 members donating 952,621 square meters; contributing VND78.12 billion (US$3.36 million) for fund specialized in building modernized farming in provinces and 272,401 working days for construction of roads and irrigation systems in rural areas.

In the 2014 – 2019 period, Hanoi War Veterans’ Association was commended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in 2018; Vietnam War Veterans’ Association in 2017 and 2018; Hanoi People’s Committee in 2014 and 2017; and 25 commendation certificates from Hanoi Party Committee, Vietnamese Fatherland Front, General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, among others.
