In Spain, the delegation held talks with José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid.
Speaking at the event, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan expressed his sincere thanks to the Mayor for his warm welcome while appreciating the growing relationship between Vietnam and Spain over the past time.
He affirmed that, basing on the relationship between Vietnam and Spain as well as the cooperation between Hanoi and Madrid, the two capital cities would intensify exchange in fields of government organization, urban management, transport, environment and tourism development.
Welcoming the delegation, Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida expressed his hope that both sides would boost cooperation and learn each other’s experience in dealing with issues arising from megalopolises, such as Hanoi and Madrid.
Notably, Madrid and its specialized entities will share their experience in traffic management, public passenger transport and tourism development with Hanoi.
Also, the delegation also had a working session with Madrid Investment Attraction (Madrid investment promotion agency). The two sides had thorough discussions about bilateral cooperation in potential areas.
Addressing the session, Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan briefed the host on Hanoi’s outstanding achievements.
He wished the two cities would expand the cooperation in fields of investment, trade and tourism while hoped the Madrid Investment Attraction would help Spanish firms increase their investments in Hanoi.
The Hanoi authority will create the best conditions for foreign investors, including those from Spain, to expand their business activities in the city, he affirmed.
Daniel Zamorano, Deputy Director of the Madrid Investment Attraction expressed his optimism about the prospect of investment promotion between the two cities.
He said that after the meeting, the Madrid Investment Attraction would propose a range of activities to strengthen the support for Spanish enterprises to pour money in Hanoi.
Later, the delegation had a working session with the City Council of Barcelona.
During the meeting, the two sides debated the organizational structure of the Government while sharing their experience in operation of people-elected bodies, such as the promulgation of policies, planning, plans and supervision activities in concerned areas.
The delegation also worked with the Barcelona Activa – a specialized agency of the Barcelona City Council in fields of investment, trade promotion and business development.
At the working session, both sides agreed that the cooperation between Hanoi and Spain has been still disproportional with their potentials.
The signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement will open up many favorable opportunities for exchange, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and EU member countries, including Spain, they stressed.
Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Tuan wished the Barcelona Activa to serve as a bridge to promote bilateral cooperation as well as to help Spanish firms seek investment opportunities in Hanoi.
During the stay, the delegation paid fact-finding trips to several traffic infrastructure systems in Madrid and Barcelona.
The delegation and the Government of Bern.
• In the framework of the program, the delegation paid working visit to Bern, the capital city of Switzerland. Alec Von Graffenried, Mayor of Bern hosted the delegation.
At the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan underlined that over the past time the relationship between Hanoi and Bern has been consolidated through many significant activities.
The visit aims to strengthen the bilateral ties, he added.
Regarding potentials and advantages of the two cities, he urged the Government of Bern to pay attention and help Swiss businesses increase investment in Hanoi.
Alec Von Graffenried, Mayor of Bern congratulated Hanoi on its achievements in recent years while affirming that the Government of Bern will promote the relationship between the two capitals.
Later, the delegation visited the Center for Public Administration and worked with Director of the Administrative Office of Bern on organizational model of all-level government apparatus, planning and transport management, environmental protection and preservation of cultural values, among others.
Under the framework of the working visit to Spain and Switzerland, the delegation had working sessions with Vietnamese embassies in the two countries.
During the meetings, the Ambassadors appreciated the purpose and significance of the visit by the delegation of Hanoi.
On behalf of the city leaders, Permanent Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan briefed them on the capital’s socio-economic developments in Vietnam while expressing his thanks to the embassies for their support.
He hoped that the Ambassadors will continue to work with Hanoi to promote its images among international friends, and help the city strengthen investment promotion and cooperation with other localities in various fields.
