In her opening speech, Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc stressed that the city has always paid special attention to caring for people’s living standards, including drinkable water supply.
Since 2016, Hanoi has made greater effort to supply clean water for 100% of residents in rural districts by 2020, 50% of them will have access to drinkable water, meanwhile 95-100% of urban dwellers will be provided with drinkable water, she added.
During the three-year period, with the drastic actions of the Municipal Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee, the city has achieved initial achievements. Particularly, the rate of rural people who have access to clean water increased from 27% in 2016 to 65% in the first half of 2019.
In an effort to give all people in rural areas access to clean water, the Municipal People’s Committee has taken actions to develop clean water supply infrastructure, especially in rural areas.
Chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc speaks at the session.
However, Ngoc said that many clean water supply projects have been behind schedule, causing the safe water shortage in some areas.
Thus, the hearing will focus on evaluating the outcomes and causes, removing weaknesses to fulfill the set target, she underlined.
