Hanoi People’s Committee holds July meeting (21:38 31/07/2019)


HNP – The Hanoi People’s Committee on July 31 held a monthly meeting to review its performance in July, 2019. The event was chaired by Nguyen Duc Chung, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee.

Giving a report at the conference, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment Nguyen Manh Quyen said that the city’s economy maintained the high growth in July. 
 
Particularly, industrial production increased by 7.9% in July, and 7.31% in the first seven months of the year.  Export turnover in July rose by 17.2%. In the first seven months of the year, the total number of tourist amounted to 16.7 million, up 9.2% year on year, in which, the number of foreign visitors reached 3.7 million, up 8.9% year on year. The tourism revenue fetched more than VND57 trillion, up 28.8% (compared to 8.8% in the same period time last year). 
 
In the first seven months of the year, Hanoi attracted US$5.1 billion worth of foreign direct investment (FDI). As many of 16,070 new businesses were established, up 8% year on year, with the total register capital of over VND196 trillion, up 20% year on year. Local budget expenditure was over VND34 billion, accounting for 34% of the estimate.
 
The city also made greater gains in planning, urban infrastructure development, traffic order and safety, clean water supply, land management, wastewater treatment, environmental sanitation, among others.

In terms of socio-cultural development, Hanoi successfully organized a wide range of cultural events, especially a series of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of Hanoi's title as “City for Peace”; completed its dossier to apply for UNESCO Creative Cities Network; reviewed and carried out plans on building national standard schools, and implemented policies for social protection beneficiaries, and ethnic people. 
 
In August, Hanoi will continue effectively executing 76 missions and solutions at Action Program No. 12/CTr-UBND, 266 tasks at Program No. 240/CTr-UBND of the Municipal People’s Committee, and rolling out others at Official Letter No. 3106/UBND-KH&DT dated July 22, 2019 on key missions in the remaining months of 2019.
 
Accordingly, the city will focus on removing shortcomings and weaknesses in the first half of the year, and improve  under-performed  indicators, such as rural water supply, wastewater treatment, among others. 
 
Furthermore, Hanoi will take drastic measures to fight African swine fever and ensure food supply; inspect, maintain and effectively operate irrigation works; proactively prevent floods; pay more attention to price control. 
 
The report underlined the need for Hanoi to take more measures for budget revenue collection; deal with difficulties and problems to speed up construction and investment disbursement; draft the 17th Municipal Party Congress documents; complete preparations for the new school year of 2019-2020; maintain political security, social order and safety, traffic safety; elaborate a plan on socio-economic development and public investment for 2020, among others.
