The event saw the attendance of Hoang Trung Hai, Politburo member, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Head of the National Assembly deputy delegation of Hanoi; Pham The Duyet, former member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo, former Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Central Committee, former Chairman of the Vietnam Trade Union, former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee; Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Council; Pham Loi, former Chairman of the Municipal People’s Council, former Chairman of the Hanoi Confederation of Labor; Tran Thanh Hai, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; among others.
Making a speech at the ceremony, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Municipal Confederation of Labor Dang Thi Phuong Hoa said that the Vietnam Trade Union, with the Tonkin Red Federation of Trade Unions as fore-runner, was founded on July 28, 1929 at No.15, Hang Non Street, Hanoi, and today is the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
Over 90 years of construction and development, the Vietnam Trade Union has always encouraged the working class to be the pioneer force in the cause of national liberation and socialist construction.

In the period of socialist-oriented market economy, industrialization, modernization and international integration, the Trade Union has focused on renewing its organization, content and operations in an effort to protect legitimate rights and interests of workers, affirming the pioneering role of the working class and making great contributions to economic development, political stability and social progress.
Over the past decades, the Hanoi Trade Union has tightened the cooperation with departments and sectors to strengthen trade union activities and gained remarkable achievements.
All-level Trade Unions have acted as representatives in protecting workers’ legitimate rights and interests via a wide range of activities, such as strengthening the communication on Vietnam Labor Code and Law on Trade Union among employers and employees, organizing meetings among Trade Union, employers and employees, among city leaders and employers and employees, inspecting the implementation of policies for workers, dealing with strikes and building harmonious industrial relations, among others.
Moreover, the Trade Unions have encouraged its members to respond to the movement “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought and morality” associated with the campaign “Building industrial culture”; and implement the year of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Hanoi’s political system” while launching many patriotic emulation movements among civil servants and workers, contributing to fulfilling socio-economic missions in agencies, units and localities.
With the achievements during 90 years, the Hanoi Trade Union was honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and the State, including Independence Medal (1998), Order of Ho Chi Minh (2008), Independence Medal, first class (2018).

Addressing the event, Politburo member, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Hoang Trung Hai stressed the Municipal Trade Union’s role in national liberation, socialist construction and development.
Party organization, authorities and people of Hanoi always appreciate all-level trade unions’ great contribution to building, protecting and developing the capital city, he added.
He also congratulated 90 outstanding leaders of local trade unions in 2019.
The Secretary hoped the Trade Unions to continue encouraging members to improve their professional skills, discipline, industrial style and legal knowledge as well as make more efforts to fulfill all assigned targets and missions.
He took the occasion to urge all-level Party Committees and authorities to pay more attention to trade unions and workers’ movements; consolidating trade unions’ role in the political system; creating optimal conditions for all-level Trade Unions’ operation; and ensuring social welfare for workers in industrial parks and export processing zones.
