In attendance were Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, and representatives of some ministries and agencies of the Central level.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that in the first half of 2019, GDP climbed 6.76%. Macroeconomic stability has been maintained. Inflation remained under control. Economic sectors have registered positive changes. Social security and national defense have been ensured.
In the first six months of 2019, Vietnam gained comprehensive outcomes in all fields, namely, economy, politics, society, environment, national security and defense and foreign affairs. Sectors and levels have made great contributions to the general development, including the sector of planning, investment and statistics, he added.
At the conference, participants had thorough discussions about institutional building, socio-economic plans, improvement of investment environment and business development, regional connectivity, foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, disbursement of public investment, statistics, and other contents.
Making a statement at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan said that the city gained comprehensive achievements in socio-economic development. Macroeconomic stability has been maintained with GRDP growth rate reaching 7.21%. State budget revenue fetched over VND133 trillion, accounting for 50.9% of the estimate, up 14.3% year on year. The number of tourists was 14.4 million, up 9.5% year on year, including 3.3 million foreigners, up 10.6% year on year. The total revenue from tourism increased by 29.8%.

Investment and business environment has been improved. Hanoi ranked 9th among 63 provinces and cities in the country in the 2018 provincial competitiveness index (PCI), up 4 levels compared to 2017. FDI capital was estimated at US$5.03 billion. The city issued business licenses to 13,630 new enterprises with the registered capital of over VND166 trillion. Total social investment reached VND140 trillion, up 12% (compared to 10.5% in the same period last year).
Besides, Hanoi made positive changes in urban management and development while paying more attention to building new-style rural areas.
To fulfill the 2019 targets, the capital city will continue carrying out set missions and solutions, including: completing preparations for the 17th Municipal Party Congress, piloting management project on urban administration according to Conclusion No.46 of the Politburo; taking drastic measures to complete unfulfilled targets; ensuring social welfare, job creation, quality of education and health care; maintaining political security, social order and safety, among others.
The city official also forwarded planning-investment issues to the MPI.
Addressing the event, Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue appreciated the MPI’s effort in fulfilling the tasks in the first half of the year.
Stressing on challenges that Vietnam has faced, the Deputy PM requested the MPI to continue thoroughly grasping the motto set by the Government to make stronger breakthroughs in the remainder of the year, and boosting stronger ties with other ministries and sectors to advise the Government on offering solutions for macroeconomic stability.
