Hanoi’s economic highlights in H1 (20:19 05/07/2019)

HNP - Making a statement at the teleconference between the Government and provinces and cities  on July 4, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that, since the beginning of the year, Hanoi has drastically rolled out missions and solutions stated at Resolution 01 of the Government. So far, the city fulfilled 961 out of 1,050 assigned tasks (accounting for 92%). Notably, the city’s socio-economic development has gained comprehensive outcomes in all fields.

Hanoi’s GRDP expands by 7.21%

In the first half of 2019, Hanoi’s GRDP rose by 7.21% (compared to 7.15% in the same period last year); state budget revenue reached nearly VND134 trillion, accounting for 50.9 of the estimate, up 14.3%.

The number of tourists to Hanoi reached 14.4 million, up 9.5% year on year, including 3.3 million international visitors, up 10.6%. The total revenue from tourism increased by 29.8%. The city ranked 9th among 63 provinces and cities in the country in the 2018 provincial competitiveness index (PCI), up 4 levels compared to 2017. Hanoi's Public administrative reform index (PAR Index) 2017 ranked second out of 63 provinces and cities throughout the country.

Hanoi has reviewed and streamlined 71 administrative procedures. Since 2016, a total of 304 administrative procedures have been trimmed off. The city authorities have provided 1,272 out of 1,772 online public services at stage 3 and 4, accounting for 72%; and granted business registration certificates for 13,630 new enterprises (up 9%). The total social investment fetched VND140 trillion, up 12.02%. FDI capital reached US$5.03 billion, taking the lead in FDI attraction.

Besides, the city has gained remarkable achievements in rural and urban management and development, culture, education, health care, and social welfare.

However, apart from the outcomes, there have been several shortcomings and weaknesses in completing the assigned tasks.

More measures to complete unfulfilled targets

In an effort to fulfill all targets in 2019, Hanoi will continue effectively carrying out set missions and measures. They included completing preparations for the 17th Municipal Party Congress; rolling out the pilot management project on urban administration according to Conclusion No. 46 of the Politburo; taking more measures to complete unfulfilled targets; speeding up the construction of major projects; joining in the effort to put African swine fever disease under control; maintaining regional connectivity and market stability.

The city will also accelerate the approval of regional planning and monitor urban planning and construction order; tighten the management of natural resource exploitation; ensure social welfare, create jobs for laborers and increase the quality of education and health care; organize a wide range of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of its title as “City For Peace”, and 50 years of implementing President Ho Chi Minh's Testament; maintain political security, social order and safety; prepare vital conditions to respond to natural disasters; improve the efficiency of foreign affairs and international integration work, among others.

On the occasion, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung proposed the Prime Minister to guide ministries and sector to perfect legal documents on investment, bidding, land and housing, among others so as to deal with entanglements.
