Hanoi culls 61,713 sows infected with ASF (07:49 05/07/2019)

HNP - The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on July 2 released Report No. 344/BC-SNN on the outcomes of prevention and control of African swine fever (ASF) in Hanoi (as of 17.00 on July 2, 2019). 

Accordingly, on July 2, the ASF virus had been found in 185 breeding households in 16 districts and towns throughout the city. The total number of culled pigs amounted to 3,166, equivalent to 245,938 kilograms.
To date, the ASF disease had been detected in 26,862 breeding households (accounting for 33.3% of the city’s total breeding households) in 24 urban and rural districts. They included Long Bien, Dong Anh, Hoang Mai, Gia Lam, Soc Son, Quoc Oai, Thuong Tin, Phu Xuyen, Thanh Tri, Chuong My, Thach That, Hoai Duc, Phuc Tho, Dan Phuong, among others.
The total number of culled pigs amount to 466,618 (accounting for 24.9% of the city’s pig herd), equivalent to 32,127 tons. In which, the number of culled sows was 61,173 (accounting for 13.1% of the total number of culled pigs).
In addition to mass environmental sanitation campaigns, all levels, sectors and localities had focused on taking various measures to prevent the disease from further spreading. The outbreaks had been detected and isolated as regulated. 
In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue rolling out measures to put the ASF epidemic under control while collaborating with district/township People’s Committees to enhance inspection and tighten supervision of the disease in each breeding household; and instructing farmers to take actions to prevent the epidemic as regulated. 
Besides, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will work with relevant units to inspect and control slaughtering houses and transport of cattle in the city; maintain operation of quarantine stations at traffic hubs and strictly handle violation cases as stipulated by law.
Also, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with press agencies of the Central level and the city will give detailed guidelines on epidemic prevention and control; and strengthen the communication on ASF disease to avoid  consumers’ turning away from clean pork.
Among tasks in the report included checking, reviewing and supplementing enough materials and chemicals to serve the fight against the ASF virus in the city; requesting the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-Department to regularly update accurate disease information to raise people’s awareness on disease prevention and control; give guidelines on taking more solutions to prevent the ASF virus and other dangerous diseases (rabies, avian influenza, green-ear disease, foot-and-mouth disease) as stipulated by law.
