Increasing the rate of rural people having access to clean water to 73-75%
At the teleconference in the second quarter of 2019 held in June 27 with the participation of the Standing Board of the Municipal Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee and leaders of districts and towns, the Municipal People’s committee rolled out a plan to ensure safe water supply in this year’s summer.
Accordingly, the Municipal People’s Committee requested relevant units to regularly check and repair the pipes in an effort to maintain stable water supply, speed up and complete five clean water supply projects in 2019, to add 525,000 cubic meters a day to water supply capacity, increasing the city's total capacity to over 1.7 million cubic meters of water per day.
Additionally, Hanoi mobilizes available resources to accelerate clean water supply network projects to raise the rate of rural residents with access to clean water to 73-75%.
16 flooded points in the inner city
On drainage work in the inner city, according to a report of the Municipal People’s Committee, there are 16 flooded points on main streets.
Regarding solutions in the coming time, Hanoi will continue upgrading the center for drainage system operation; exploiting and improving HSDC Maps app to issue flood warnings, instrucions, water level information, and images of flooded areas, among others.
The city will ask specialized units to regularly check drainage system, and repair drainage works, such as pump stations, dams and dyke system before the rainy season 2019 while completing preparations in response to heavy rains.
In terms of the rescue work, as of May 15, 2019, the city recorded 107 cases of blaze, forest fires and natural disasters, and building collapse, killing 22 people and injuring 17 others, damaging 1.3 hectares of forest and 26 vehicles.
Striving to provide clean water to all local residents
Making conclusion at the conference, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai said that the city strives to provide clean and safe water to 100% of dwellers in 2020.
Besides, the city focuses on increasing the volume of safe water obtained from purified surface water, and reducing the extraction of groundwater; expanding the safe water supply network. So far, 23 investors have carried out 34 clean water supply projects approved by the city.
The Municipal People’s Council to supervise the construction of clean water supply projects to point out reasons causing the slow progress, and propose solutions to speed up the construction, he assigned.
Meanwhile, the Municipal People’s Committee will be in charge of boosting projects on exploiting the surface water from Red and Duong Rivers.
All levels and sectors need to jointly remove difficulties and problems to accelerate projects, he noted, asking districts and towns to positively review and detect shortcomings in water supply, give assistance to local businesses, and give reports to the city for settlement.
Regarding drainage and anti-flood work, Secretary Hoang Trung Hai underlined the need to speed up drainage works, especially pump station projects.
He also asked relevant units to continue strengthening the communication to raise people’s awareness on flood prevention and control, and proactively review, check and prepare enough resources to respond to natural disasters with the “four-on-spot” motto.
Rural districts, including Chuong My, My Duc, Quoc Oai, Ung Hoa, Phuc Xuyen need to elaborate anti-flood plans, he assigned, adding that departments, sectors and relevant districts should speed up the construction of anti-flood works.
