HNP - Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung hosted General Director of Samsung Vietnam Choi Joo-ho on April 23.

At the reception, Choi Joo-ho expressed his thanks to the Municipal People’s Committee Chairman for his warm welcome.

Currently, Samsung has built six factories in Vietnam, a research center and a business in charge of sales in Hanoi, he said, adding that last year, export turnover of Samsung Electronics hit US$60 billion, equivalent to 25% Vietnam’s total export value.

Informing the project to build a new Samsung’s Research and Development (R&D) Centre in Tay Ho Tay (West Lake) urban area, Choi Joo-ho said that this is a sole center specializing in both smart phones and internet equipment. It is also expected to take the lead in Samsung's 5G technology development, thus contributing to the building of smart factories in Hanoi in the future.

The center construction was discussed during the meeting between Samsung’s Vice President Lee Jae-yong and PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc in the frame of Lee’s trip to Vietnam in 2018.

According to Choi Joo-ho, the project will improve the investment reputation of Vietnam as Samsung’s strategic hub in the region, with the possibility of becoming a headquarters of Samsung in Vietnam.

He also wished the Hanoi authority to create optimal conditions for the construction of the center.
