Sustainable fashion show Walk the talk held in Hanoi (09:00 11/04/2019)

HNP - The Hanoi People’s Committee in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Viet Nam organized a sustainable fashion show themed “Walk the talk” at the King Ly Thai To Square on April 9. The activity is on the framework of the official visit to Vietnam of Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte.

The event saw the attendance of Politburo member, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung; Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, among others. 


Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung stressed that since the diplomatic ties between the Netherlands and Vietnam were officially established on April 9, 1973, the bilateral ties has developed positively, extensively, effectively and comprehensively over the past 46 years.  
Additionally, the cooperation between Dutch and Hanoi businesses has been strengthened over the past time, he said, and adding that Hanoi has always considered Dutch firms as important partners in the fields of education and training, environment, planning, urban infrastructure, construction materials, investment, trade and tourism.

According to Hanoi Chairman, in 2018, the total investment from Dutch enterprises into Hanoi reached over USD606 million; Hanoi's export turnover to the Dutch market also fetched nearly USD800 million. 
Recently, Hanoi – A City for Peace has become a friendly destination for foreign tourists, including those from the Netherlands. Last year, Dutch tourist arrival to Vietnam hit 73,000, up 10% year on year, ranking 15th out of top 20 markets, accounting for 94% of the total Dutch visitors to Vietnam. 
Chairman Chung suggested further enhancing cultural exchanges, trade and tourism promotion activities between the Netherlands and Vietnam in general as well as Hanoi in particular. 
The city leader said that the fashion show not only raises mutual understanding and bilateral ties but also offers local residents and visitors an insight into joint work in the fields of culture, fashion and environment, thus contributing to raise the awareness of each citizen and visitor on environment and sustainable development.

For his part, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte expressed his delight at stronger cooperation between apparel industries of both countries to promote sustainable fashion, a non-discriminatory trend for all walks of life.Emphasizing that textile and garment is regarded as one of Vietnam’s key economic sectors, Mark Rutte applauded great contributions of the Vietnamese Government to strengthening the sector’s sustainable development. 
On the occasion, he also thanked the Hanoi People’s Committee for co-organizing the sustainable fashion.
