The ceremony is a chance to recall cultural and historical tradition, and express the profound gratitude for predecessors’ devotion to building Thang Long (now Hanoi) culture and Dai Viet civilization while strengthening patriotic sentiment education among young generations.

Ly Thai To, also known as Ly Cong Uan, was the first king of the Ly dynasty which lasted for more than 200 years. In 1010, Ly Cong Uan moved the royal capital from Hoa Lu (100 km from Hanoi) to Dai La (currently Hanoi), building a new citadel named Thang Long. He started a new brilliant development stage of the ancient Dai Viet kingdom. The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long has also become the largest political, economic, and cultural center in the country for centuries later.
