At the meeting, Head of the Sub-Department of Animal Health Pham Van Dong said that as of March 14th, the African swine fever broke out in 221 communes, 52 districts in 17 provinces and cities. So far, a total of 23,442 infected pigs have been culled. Most outbreaks have been found at small breeding farms.
According to Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, one of the most important measures is focusing on disease prevention and control in small breeding farms, especially cleaning the environment.
Furthermore, localities need to synchronously execute the financial aid policy for culling infected pigs; strengthen the communication on the policy among farmers to prevent consumption of sick pigs; and review the entire process of epidemic prevention and control to study more effective preventive measures.
Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy speaks at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee, said that the city has drastically asked districts and townships to take measures to put the epidemic under control.
Ha Noi instructed localities to proactively support farmers who had their infected pigs culled to provide them with financial aid worth VND38,000 per kilo of culled pig, the city’s leader added.
According to the Vice Chairman, districts and townships will launch environmental sanitation campaigns in the shortest possible time. Functional forces will instruct organizations, individuals to build pork supply chains to ensure food safety and hygiene.
Making conclusion at the meeting, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong asked provinces and cities, basing on the Prime Minister’s instructions, to review plans on fighting the disease.
He urged localities to tighten the control of breeding activities in small farms; take bio-security measures; treat the environment with lime powder in all breeding households, while requesting large breeding farms to pay special attention to disease prevention and control.
Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong also requested the Agency of Animal Health to study concrete causes of the disease.
Agencies and localities need to strengthen disease dissemination to call on people not to boycott safe pork products as African swine fever is a contagious disease which only affects pigs; and humans are not susceptible to the disease, he noted.
