The economic growth rate is higher than that last year
According to the report, 20 targets of the city’s socio-economic development in 2018 are fulfilled and exceeded. Accordingly, the city’s economy recorded a high growth rate. Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) rose by 8.56%; Per capita reached US$ 4,080, 1.12 times higher than that of 2015; Budget revenue was estimated to reach over VND 238 trillion, equal to 100.2% over the estimate (posting a year-on-year increase of 12.6%);
Moreover, total investment for social development was estimated at over VND 340 trillion, up 10.6%. Foreign direct investment (FDI) capital was estimated to fetch US$ 6.5 billion, becoming the leading city in FDI attraction for the first time. Between 2016 and 2018, Ha Noi attracted approximately US$ 13.25 billion, 2.12 times higher than that of the 2011-2015 period, equal to 48.6% over the 1986-2015 period. Export turnover witnessed a sharply increase of 21.6%.
Besides, the city has focused on developing tourism sector with a series of outstanding products and services to attract more visitor, such as cultural festivals in pedestrian area around Hoan Kiem Lake and vicinity, hop-on hop-off tourist bus services, Phung Hung Fresco Street, Tinh hoa Bac Bo (Quintessence of Tonkin) program, etc. After all, in 2018, Ha Noi welcomes 26.04 million tourists, up 9.3%, including 5.74 million foreign arrivals, up 16%.
GRDP is expected to increase by minimum 7.5%
Under the working theme of 2018 “Improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the political system”, Ha Noi has focused on renewing and re-organizing the apparatus at all levels and sectors. In 2018, the capital city reduced 695 civil servants, completed a pilot project on urban administration, and made projects on building Hoai Duc, Gia Lam, Dong Anh, Thanh Tri and Dan Phuong suburban districts into urban districts by 2020.
Furthermore, Ha Noi has paid attention to improving business environment, removing difficulties for production, trade, providing convenient services to support local enterprises. In 2018, the city granted certificates of business registration to 25,742 businesses with the total registered capital of over VND 280 trillion, increasing the number of enterprises to 255,280.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Doan Toan also pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses, such as traffic congress, urban construction order, key projects slower than the schedule, etc.
Thus, the Municipal People’s Committee offers key missions in 2019, including improving business and investment environment, strengthening economic restructuring and growth, comprehensively developing urban planning and new style rural building, culture, sports, education, healthcare and ensuring social welfare, etc.
Accordingly, the city also sets up 22 key targets. Particularly, GRDP will rise by at least 7.5%, in which, services, construction – industry and agriculture will be up 7.1-7.3%, 8.5-8.7%, 2.5-3%, respectively. The growth rate of social investment will reach between 10.5-11%. Export revenue will post an increase of 7.5-8%, etc.
