The event saw the attendance of Nguyen Lan Huong, Head of the Municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization and Chairwoman of the Ha Noi Union of Friendship Organizations; Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee and Head of the Organizing Board of the Ha Noi Moi Newspaper Run; and Ho Quang Loi, Permanent Vice President of the Viet Nam Journalists’ Association.
This year’s race attracted around 1,500 athletes from districts, suburban districts, towns, universities, vocational training schools, including 280 foreign runners from embassies and international organizations in the area. The event drew the participation of 160 professional runners from 20 provinces and cities.

Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy said that the Ha Noi Moi Newspaper Run is seen as an annual activity attracting various local people in response to the movement “All people take exercise following the great Uncle Ho's example”.
The tournament also aims at promoting sports among local people.
In the professional events, women will run three laps — equivalent to 5,250m — around Hoan Kiem Lake. The men will complete five laps, around 8,750m.
In the amateur category, students, workers, soldiers and expats, will compete in different distances, ranging from 1,750m to 5,250m.
The event is one of several activities held to mark the 64th anniversary of Ha Noi liberation and 19th anniversary of the capital being recognized as “The City for Peace” by UNESCO.
On the occasion, Editor in Chief of the Ha Noi Moi Newspaper Nguyen Hoang Long handed over VND 50 million to the Ha Noi Fund for the Poor.
