12th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour holds a plenary session (22:44 26/09/2018)


HNP – The 12th Congress of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) for the tenure of 2018-2023 held a plenary session at the National Convention Center on September 25th.



The event saw the attendance of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong; former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former Politburo members and former State Presidents Tran Duc Luong, Truong Tan Sang; Politburo member and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Politburo member and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; former Politburo members and former Chairmen of the National Assembly Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Sinh Hung; Politburo member and Secretariat’s permanent member Tran Quoc Vuong; former Politburo permanent member and former VGCL President Pham The Duyet;  former Politburo member and former Secretariat’s permanent member Le Hong Anh; Politburo member and Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, among others.

 

Improving the role as the representative in protecting, caring for workers’ interests

 

Giving a report of the Executive Board of the 12th Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour, VGCL President Bui Van Cuong said that all-level trade unions focused on giving practical benefits to union members and laborers and launching many significant programs, such as the Worker Month, Tet Holiday, contributing to caring for and protecting the rights and interests of workers and their members.

Furthermore, trade unions have recommended the Party and State about a plan on building facilities for workers in industrial parks, export processing zones such as housing, nurseries and entertainment places; taken part in meeting vital demands of workers.

The VGCL has positively participated in making policies relating to workers; played its role as the representative of workers in the National Wage Council to help minimum wage increase by more than 55% in the past five years.

Additionally, trade unions have cooperated with authorities to organize meetings with civil servants, laborers. The VGCL has held three dialogues between the Prime Minister and workers nationwide to deal with difficulties that working class are facing.

Legal consultancy, labor sanitation, fire prevention and working conditions for workers have been improved remarkably, contributing to reducing accidents and occupational diseases.

By November 30th, 2017, the country has got a total of 10.05 million members, up 2.1 million comparing to the term’s beginning.


Besides gained achievements, the congress pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses which need removing in the coming time.

 

In the 2018-2023 tenure, trade unions at all levels will focus on three breakthroughs, including renewing organization and operation methods, caring for members and protecting their rights, building union officials with high quality.

9 targets, 9 general missions and 10 specific missions, solutions will be implemented in the next term.
