Hanoi GRDP growth expands by 7.79% in H1 (19:16 02/07/2022)


HNP - On June 30, the Hanoi Statistics Department held a press conference to provide information over the city’s economic performance in the first 6 months of 2022.  



According to the statistics authorities, in the six-month period, Hanoi’s GRDP increased by 7.79% over the same period last year; in which, the first quarter saw an increase by 6.02%; The second quarter by 9.49%. The growth of GRDP in the first 6 months of this year is higher than that of the same period in recent years, and at the same time, shows a clear trend of recovery and development over each quarter in key industries and fields.

The service sector in the first 6 months of the year increased by 9.05% compared to the same period last year (up 6.4% in the first quarter; in the second quarter increased by 11.68%), contributing 5.91 percentage points to the growth in GRDP.

Industry and construction sector in the first 6 months of 2022 rose by 6.31% compared to the same period in 2021 (Q1, increased 5.95%; Quarter II, increased 6.61%), contributed 1.27 points share hundred to the increase in GRDP. The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector in the first 6 months of this year was estimated to increase by 2.39% over the same period last year, contributing 0.06 points to the increase in GRDP.

Overall, in the first 6 months of 2022, the industrial production index climbed  by 6.6% over the same period last year (the first 6 months of 2021 increased by 8.7%), in which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 6.8%; electricity production and distribution increased by 3.9%; water supply and waste/wastewater treatment increased by 7.0%; mining decreased by 7.6%.

Most of the processing and manufacturing industries saw an increase in the industrial production index over the same period last year, of which a number of industries achieved  high growth such as: Paper and paper products production increased by 20.3%; production of non-metallic mineral products   by 18.5%; production of prefabricated metal products   by 16.1%; wood processing and production of wood products  by 15.5%; production of means of transport   by 11.3%.

During the period, Hanoi attracted US$767.1 million of registered foreign investment capital, up 30.6% over the same period. The Department noted this is an important result, demonstrating the attractiveness of Hanoi's business and investment environment in the eyes of international investors. In the first 6 months of 2022, Hanoi has nearly 15,000 newly registered enterprises, up 14% over the same period last year; registered capital reached VND184.1 trillion, up 1% over the same period.

Authorities have carried out dissolution procedures for nearly 1.9 thousand enterprises, an increase of 13%. Besides, nearly 11.2 thousand enterprises registered to suspend operations, up 51% over the same period. However, there were also 6.6 thousand enterprises operating again, up 14% over the same period. The rate of online business registration dossiers is maintained at 100%, ensuring quality and punctuality.

According to Director of the Hanoi Statistics Office Dau Ngoc Hung, in case inflation is controlled and fuel prices and input materials do not increase sharply, 41.8% of businesses expect the third quarter of 2022 will be better than the second quarter of 2022; 41.8% of enterprises think that the production and business situation will be stable and 16.4% of enterprises forecast more difficulties. Particularly, 85.2% of non-state enterprises predicted that the production and business situation in the third quarter of 2022 will be better and more stable than in the second quarter of 2022.

Generally, in the past 6 months, the export turnover of goods in the city reached US$8.3 billion, up 17.1% over the same period; in which, the domestic economic sector reached US$4.6 billion, up 17.5%; FDI sector reached US$3.7 billion, up 16.6%. Key items with higher export turnover in the first 6 months of the year compared to the same period last year included textile and garment products at US$1.2 billion, up 29.6%; computer components and peripherals reached US$1 billion, up 20.2%; means of transport and spare parts at US$765 million, up 2.7%; gasoline at US$647 million; wood and wood products reached $439 million, up 27.9%.
