Stronger measures needed to contain spread of nCoV (12:38 04/02/2020)

HNP - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam chaired an online conference between the National Steering Committee on prevention of acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV) (the National Steering Committee) and provinces and cities nationwide on February 1 to discuss the implementation of directives of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat and the Prime Minister on enhancing measures to contain the spread of the nCoV.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo VanQuy along with heads of the city’s entities attended the event. 


Speaking at the meeting, PM Vu Duc Dam who is head of the National Steering Committee stated Vietnam has proactively taken a wide range of measures on the prevention and control of nCoV. 
The Government and the Prime Minister have especially paid great attention to the epidemics, regularly updated on the situation, and tasked inferior levels to demonstrate the highest focus on preventing the spread of the novel virus, he added. 
According to a report presented by Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen, so far Vietnam has reported six cases of nCoV infections. 
The Ministry of Health (MoH) also asked Departments of Health to establish their emergency lines before 4.00 pm on February 1, 2020 to receive local residents’ report on the evolution of the outbreak.. 
In Hanoi, no cases of nCoV have been recorded so far. The health sector has applied forced quarantine on 19 people suspected of being infected by the new coronavirus. These cases are now in stable condition, 15 of them are tested negative with the nCoV.
Regarding disinfectant spray in Hanoi, PM Vu Duc Dam asked provinces and cities to timely spray schools and markets with disinfectant to combat nCoV infection. 
According to a report by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), currently, Vietnam has 38 factories that can produce 3-layer face masks with a total capacity of 1.2 million masks per day. In addition, there are two special factories that can produce 32,000 N95 face masks per day, meeting domestic demands . 
The MoIT asked provinces and cities to tighten surveillance on the market. Since January 31, functional forces have launched campaigns to inspect and handle acts of hoarding and speculation of medical supplies.
The MoIT also requested the MoH to disseminate warnings and preventive measures on mass media.
Making conclusion at the meeting, PM Vu Duc Dam asked ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and localities to proactively take drastic measures to combat the epidemic.

Following the online conference, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee hosted a meeting with departments and sectors on implementing a number of urgent measures to contain the spread of the nCoV in the city. 
He underlined the need to establish the Municipal Steering Committee on prevention of acute respiratory disease caused by the nCoV. 
The Department of Culture and Tourism is tasked to suspend the organization of festivals. 
The city official acknowledged and praised efforts of the education and training sector in preventing the epidemic. 
Quy asked the Department of Tourism to stop receiving visitors from epidemic-infected areas 
In addition, all hospitals in the city need to be prepared for the epidemic, he noted. 
The Vice Chairman also urged districts to establish Steering Committees on prevention of acute respiratory disease caused by the nCoV to strictly implement the city’s guiding documents.
