Hanoi approves list of 160 candidates for the election of deputies to its People’s Council, tenure 2021-2026 (13:39 19/04/2021)
Chairwoman of the VFF’s Hanoi Committee Nguyen Lan Huong chaired the event. In attendance were member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen; Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council and Standing Vice Chairwoman of the municipal Election Committee Phung Thi Hong Ha; and representatives of Party organizations under the municipal Party Committee and the Department of Home Affairs.
According to a report presented by Standing Vice Chairman of the VFF’s Hanoi Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan, from March 21 to April 13, the committee conducted 182 meetings to collect voters' opinion at the place of residence or workplace of the candidates.
According to Vice Chairman of the VFF’s Hanoi Committee Nguyen Sy Truong, the second consultative conference passed an initial list of 188 candidates, but 24 candidates later renounced and two others received less than 50 percent of confidence votes at meetings of voters in their neighbourhood.
Among the remaining 162 candidates, 63 are women, four are of minority ethnic groups, 23 are not members of the Party, and 35 are under 40 years old.
All 55 delegates present at the conference (or 100%) adopted the official list of 160 eligible candidates for the election of deputies to the 16th municipal People’s Council, 2021-2026.
Speaking at the conference, VFF’s Hanoi Committee Chairwoman Nguyen Lan Huong said, the Standing Committee of the VFF’s Hanoi Committee would send the minutes of the third consultation meeting and the list of eligible candidates for the election of deputies to the 16th municipal People’s Council to the National Election Council, the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi Election Commission.
Huong asked for efforts to enhance inspection, and prepare conditions necessary for the success, and democratic, equal, safe, and thrifty organization of the elections in line with legal regulations.
