The program aims to promote the new-style rural areas construction movement and agricultural restructuring for better living standards of people in the countryside for the 2021-2025 period.
The meeting saw the attendance of Head of the municipal Party Committee's Education and Communications Commission Bui Huyen Mai, and Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen.
Giving a report at the meeting, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Chu Phu My said that during the July-September period, the COVID-19 pandemic had negatively affected the implementation of the program, especially the building of new style rural areas.
According to him, Hanoi has so far had 12 out of 18 districts and township recognized as new style rural areas. Six districts have not yet met new style rural standards. Of them, Chuong My, Me Linh, and Ung Hoa districts are striving to earn the title this year. The remaining localities are expected to fulfill the goal in 2022.
A total of 368 out of Hanoi's 382 communes or 96.3% have fulfilled the criteria set for new-style rural areas to date. 29 of them have met the standards of advanced new-style rural areas.
In the third quarter of this year, the capital city spent nearly VND15.5 trillion (over US$673 million) on the new-style rural area building program, including VND 574 trillion of non-State funds.
Concluding the meeting, Permanent Deputy Secretary Nguyen Thi Tuyen said that despite various difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hanoi tried its best to maintain agricultural production and supply chains so as to ensure the supply of necessary goods for local residents amid the implementation of social distancing rules in the entire city.
Regarding key mission in the reminder of the year, Tuyen asked districts and township to enhance farming, and pay special attention to the adoption of preventive measures against African swine fever and avian flu.
The districts should focus on restructuring agricultural sector in association with improving production techniques, and do their utmost to fulfill targets of the One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) program in 2021, she noted.
The head of the Steering Committee for the program requested the remaining localities to strive to meet all new style rural areas criteria.
She asked for full attention to collective economic development, comprehensive assessment of current status of agricultural cooperatives, farm economic development and support for craft villages in the context of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Wrapping up the meeting, Tuyen required districts and township to strictly follow the municipal authorities' guidelines on COVID-19 prevention and control, and deploy pandemic response scenarios to safeguard the capital city.
She also ordered the localities to promote the role of the political system at grassroots as well as community-based COVID-19 teams in the city's fight against COVID-19.
