According to a report of the Department of Health, the COVID-19 situation remains complicated globally. The number of infections is  increasing in Southeast Asian countries, such as Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos.

Especially, as Vietnam shares borders with Laos and Cambodia, the country is at high risk of infection from these countries.

He had returned from Japan on April 7 and been quarantined for a fortnight in the central city of Da Nang. After returning home to Ha Nam, he had come into close contact with many people and did not follow the required COVID-19 prevention protocols. So far, at least 19 new infections have been linked to him.

On May 2, the Ministry of Health also confirmed a group of six female staff of a bar in the northern province of Vinh Phuc having COVID-19 after being in close contact with a Chinese expert who came to the bar and tested positive earlier.

Hanoi recorded one new coronavirus case linking to the cluster of cases in Vinh Phuc on May 3. The patient is a 26-year-old man from Phuc Dien War, Bac Tu Liem District. A total of 26 people exposed to the patient (called F1) have been sent to concentrated quarantine camps and tested negative for the novel coronavirus.

On May 4, the capital city confirmed one more COVID-19 case, an Indian expert. The 37-year-old man lives in Times City, Hoang Mai district. He came to Vietnam on April 17 and was sent to quarantine at a hotel in Hong Bang District in the northern port city of Hai Phong and stayed there until May 1. During this period, he had tested negative twice on April 19 and 30.

He came to a Vinmec healthcare facility for a commercial COVID-19 test and was confirmed positive. All six F1 cases were traced and tested negative.

Besides, there have been three positive cases associated to the karaoke bar Sunny Club in Vinh Phuc Province.  Hanoi has recorded five locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 since April 29.

Promptly combating the outbreaks

According to Deputy Director of the Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh, local authorities have timely handled the COVID-19 outbreaks to prevent the virus from spreading.

A total of 2,427 people were tested for the virus, of these, 204 are negative and the rest are waiting for results, he added.

He said that the municipal authorities decided to impose lockdown on affected areas, including lane 94, Bui Thi Xuan Street, Hai Ba Trung District from May 2; Vien Dong Start residential building in Hoang Mai District form May 3; Block 10 in the Times City, Hoang Mai District from May 4, and others.

Concerning 52 illegal cases in Hanoi, the health official said that all have been sent to concentrated quarantine facilities and have been taken samples for COVID-19 testing.

In terms of the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination, Hanh said the health sector has inoculated 56,272 people against coronavirus, and all are now in stable health conditions.
