Hanoi strengthens COVID-19 fight (08:01 15/05/2021)

HNP - The Hanoi Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control (the Steering Committee) held an online meeting with district- and commune-level authorities on May 13, regarding drastic measures to fight the pandemic.

The event was chaired by member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and Head of the municipal Steering Committee Chu Ngoc Anh.
In attendance were Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and Vice Head of the municipal Steering Committee Chu Xuan Dung, and leaders of relevant departments and sectors.
According to report of the Department of Health, Hanoi has confirmed 62 COVID-19 community cases (called F0) linked to eight clusters of coronavirus infections found  since April 29.
As many as 2,019 people exposed to F0 cases (F1) have been quarantined and tested for the virus. Of these, 43 are positive and 41 are waiting results now.
So far, the city has placed 36 COVID-19-hit areas under lockdown in line with the Prime Minister’s Directive 16, with the total of 40,679 residents.
Hanoi has given coronavirus vaccine shots to 70,158 people who are in regular and direct contact with sources of infections, and all of them are in good health.
In terms of COVID-19 prevention and control in hospitals, the health sector has conducted coronavirus testing for nearly 30,500 health workers and more than 13,100 inpatients. As a result, a suspected case was detected in Thanh Nhan Hospital on May 12.
Especially, on May 13, the Department of Health decided to suspend the operation of Thu Cuc General Clinics, located at 216 Tran Duy Hung Street in Cau Giay district, to verify and address issues related to its admission and treatment of a COVID-19 case reported on May 12.
Besides, the functional forces have handled more than 3,000 individuals who violate COVID-19 prevention rules, with the total fine of over VND3 trillion.
Giving a report at the meeting, the leader of the Transport Department said the agency has cooperated with its counterparts in nine provinces of Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Ha Giang, Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Lai Chau, Nam Dinh and Tuyen Quang to temporary reduce  frequency of inter-provincial public transport services amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the representative of the Hanoi Management Board of Industrial Parks and Export Processing Zones, the unit has worked with its peer agencies from Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hung Yen and Vinh Phuc provinces in closely managing workers.
Speaking at the meeting, Director of the Department of Health Tran Thi Nhi Ha stressed the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in the city has been still complicated and unpredictable due to the rapid spread of new coronavirus trains.
However, the city is effectively implementing measures to curb the spread of the virus, so the outbreaks have basically put under control, she underlined.
Concerning two coronavirus cases linked to Danang City, including a woman and her husband, reported on May 12, Ha said the health sector has quickly conducted contact tracing and zoned off related areas to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung said the city is at very high risk of spreading COVID-19 in the community as many F0 cases from other provinces and cities come to Hanoi.
Regarding major tasks in the coming time, Dung asked local authorities to continue drastic measures to prevent the source of infections, and impose strict fines on those violating COVID-19 prevention regulations.
He ordered strict enforcement of coronavirus prevention and control protocols in industrial parks and export processing zones to keep them safe.
Making conclusion at the meeting, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh affirmed Hanoi has followed the directions of the Central levels and the Government on realizing the twin goals of fighting the pandemic and maintaining economic development.
More efforts have been made to prepare the best conditions for the elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for tenure of 2021-2026, which is scheduled to take place on May 23, he stated.
For Patient 3634 who lives in the Centre Point Apartment Building on Le Van Luong Street, the city leader concluded that the man violated regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control. The city asked Hacinco to clarify collective and individual responsibility for the case, he added.
Coping with the complicated development of the disease in Hanoi, Anh requested the Department of Transport to continue maintaining the operations of surveillance checkpoints to control entries from neighboring provinces.
The city’s Industrial Park and Export Processing Zone Management Board is tasked to enhance cooperation with local authorities to tighten the management of workers and experts.
Local residents are advised to abide by preventive measures, especially the message of the Health Ministry featuring 5K (in Vietnamese) Khau trang (facemask) - Khu khuan (disinfection) - Khoang cach (distance) - Khong tu tap (no gathering) - Khai bao y te (health declaration). 
Anh asked all-level authorities to work hard to ensure the success of the upcoming elections.
