This result helps Vietnam rank fourth among the 35 participating countries and territories at the event, after China, Iran, and Japan.
Particularly, Le Quang Huy, a 12th grader from the high school for gifted students in natural sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), and Truong Van Quoc Bao, an 11th grader from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, grabbed the gold medals.
The silver medal went to Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat, a 12th grader from the Quoc Hoc - Hue High School for the Gifted in Thua Thien Hue province.
Bronze medals were awarded to Nguyen Vu Dang Huy from the VNU-HCM High School for the Gifted; Dao Duy Anh from the Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted in Hai Duong province; and Tran Xuan Bach from the high school for gifted students in natural sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The APIO 2021 was held online with the participation of 845 contestants from 35 countries and territories.
Fifteen Vietnamese contestants took the online exam at the University of Technology under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi on May 22.
In the context of the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has prepared the best conditions for the competition, meeting all the contest’s requirements.
According to the organizers’ regulation, the six with the highest scores were chosen to vie for awards, and all of them won medals.
