Addressing the event, Nguyen Sy Truong, Chairman of the Hanoi Red Cross, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization, said that this year’s World Blood Donor Day themed “Safe blood for all” keeps recognizing and praising blood donors.
He added that as many as more than 100 people around the world donate blood every year. In 2018, Vietnam received over 1.5 million blood units.
Hanoi also received a total of 223,000 blood units in 2018 and more than 120,000 units in the first half of 2019, accounting for 58% of the set plan.
Among the honored donors, there are many families who have donated blood for dozens of times.
The event aims to promote the city’s voluntary blood donation movements, contributing to protecting, caring for and improving people’s health in the following years.
At the ceremony, the Vietnam Red Cross Society Central Committee presented certificates of merits to 25 families and 10 individuals having great contributions to voluntary blood donation movements in Hanoi. Meanwhile, the Hanoi People’s Committee also offered certificates of merit to five outstanding families and five individuals.
In the framework of the event, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization launched the Summer Blood Donation Festival in response to World Blood Donor Day (June 14).
