Department of Transport takes actions to respond to natural disasters and prepare for search and rescue in 2019 (09:20 15/05/2019)
Hanoi has 20,870.78km of road, of which 2,099.15km are under district level management, 1,641.01 km controlled and maintained by commune, and 17,130.62 km by the villages.
Total length of waterway routes is estimate at 650km, of which 250km managed by the central Government and 400km managed by the city’s government. Furthermore, there are ponds, lakes and springs; some of them are being used for tourism or recreational activities.
In response to natural disasters and prepare for search and rescue in 2019, the Department of Transport will strictly enforce the Law on Natural Disasters Prevention and Control, Ordinance on Dyke and other regulations on dyke protection; implement instruction on flooding, natural disasters prevention and control of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Hanoi Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prevention and Control and Ministry of Transport once natural disaster, flood and storm occur.
The Department will also take action to realize plan on natural disaster, flood and storm prevention and control; conduct communication and education among staffs, focusing on their role and responsibilities in the field of natural disaster, flood and storm prevention and control, and raise their understanding on natural disaster, flood and storm prevention and control to minimize damages; prepare human resources, equipment, devices and other conditions for the Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prevention and Control to take action once natural disaster, flood and storm occur, thus protecting transport infrastructure in Hanoi; overcome damages of the disaster, flood and storm; have plan to arrange transport and ensure traffic safety during and after the disaster, flood and storm; stabilize the situation for livelihood; cooperate with authorities and other forces to join hand for rescue, taking injured people to hospitals and search for the missing people; transport products, supplies, equipment, and evacuate the area affected by flood and storm according to the city’s plan on natural disaster, flood and storm prevention and control.
