The event was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Head of the PCC’s Commission for Education and Communication Vo Van Thuong; PCC member, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam; and representatives of ministries, sectors and localities.
From Hanoi, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung along with leaders of the Department of Information and Communications attended the conference.
The information - communication sector fulfilled its tasks, and achieved positive results in 2020 as well as in the 2016-2020 period.
The media has still proven its important role in the cause of national construction and defense, covering events in society, creating consensus and social confidence and driving people’s aspirations for a strong country.
During the period, Vietnam has made strong strides in global rankings in fields of post, ICT application, ICT development index, e-government and cybersecurity. In 2019, the country ranked 50th out of 175 countries on the Global Cybersecurity Index (CGI) in 2018, up 50 places from 2017.
The post has maintained its average revenue growth of 35% per year. The ratio of people accessing mobile broadband was 76.42% last year. Online public services at stage 4 accounted for 30.86% in 2020.
Notably, journalism planning has been designed and media agencies scrutinized. As of the end of 2020, Vietnam had 779 media agencies.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam hailed the achievements attained by the information and communications sector in 2020 and in the 2016-2020 period.
Informing the country’s outstanding results in the context of the COVID-19 outbreak, he attributed the success to the effort by the ICT sector.
Dam called on IT companies to become involved in the digital transformation program initiated by the Ministry of Information and Communications by discussing and seeking open platforms based on the practical demands of citizens.
At the meeting, MIC announced its program, co-organized with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, to support small and medium businesses in their digital transformation process, especially during the sensitive time of Covid-19 pandemic.
The MIC formally introduced the Information Portal tingia.gov.vn as well as the Hotline 18008108 to receive reports on fake news related to state and private organizations, businesses, individuals. The portal also acts as a bulletin board to announce proved fake news and its real counterpart.
