Hanoi Party chief meets outgoing UK Ambassador to Vietnam (19:17 02/07/2022)


HNP - On July 1, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Head of the Hanoi National Assembly Delegation Dinh Tien Dung received the outgoing UK Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward as the latter came to say goodbye as his term is coming to an end.  



Recognizing and appreciating the contributions of Ambassador Gareth Ward and staff of the British Embassy in promoting the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the UK, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung gave an overview of the socio-economic situation of the capital, after the city has now put the pandemic situation under control. Accordingly, in the past two years, with the efforts of the Party, Government and people, Vietnam has overcome the difficult period of the pandemic. So far,  94% of people in the capital have been vaccinated with the 3rd dose of Covid-19 vaccine and the city is continuing to campaign for the 4th injection for eligible people.

Meanwhile, the city has been working to ensure social welfare, especially for vulnerable groups. From the end of 2021, along with the whole country, Hanoi has gradually reopened its socio-economic activities. According to statistics, in the first quarter of 2022, Hanoi's economic growth reached 5.53%; In the second quarter of 2022, Hanoi's economy grew by 9.49%. On average in the first 6 months, the city's growth reached 7.79%. Most likely, by the end of 2022, Hanoi would achieve the growth target of 7%-7.5% set for this year.

Referring to Hanoi's major orientations in the coming years, with 3 areas being prioritized for development, namely culture, education and health, Party Secretary Dinh Tien Dung said that this is also the strengths of the UK and the two sides have a lot of room for cooperation especially in the fields of combating climate change, green energy development, urban construction and economic cooperation.

On behalf of the leaders and people of Hanoi, the secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Dinh Tien Dung, wished that Ambassador Gareth Ward in his new position would continue to contribute to the strong cooperative relationship between the two countries and always promote Hanoi's image in the UK.

Expressing his appreciation for the affection and support of the Hanoi authorities during his tenure, Ambassador Gareth Ward affirmed to continue his efforts to contribute to strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two countries in general and with the capital Hanoi in particular.

This is particularly significant as Vietnam and the UK are working to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023, for which many cultural, sporting and tourism promotion activities will be carried out.
