Hanoi Party chief hosts EU ambassador (21:22 15/10/2021)

In attendance were Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung, and leaders of some departments and sectors.At the reception, Hanoi Secretary Dinh Tien Dung briefed the EU ambassador on the city's outstanding achievements over the past time.

According to Dung, during the 2016-2020 period, the capital city has posted the average economic growth rate of 7.39%. Per capita income reached US$5,420, 1.8 times the national average.
Hanoi's foreign direct investment (FDI) reached $8.6 billion in 2019 and fell to $3.83 billion in 2020. The city attracted US$1.09 billion in FDI in the first nine months of this year and the figure is expected to hit US$2 billion.
Hanoi contributes 16% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), 18.5% of the national budget, and 8.6% of total export and import turnover.
In the coming period, Hanoi aims to build a green, modern, and smart city, maintaining the title of “City for Peace.”
He said that the capital city has taken different measures to enhance administrative reforms, improve investment environment, and removing difficulties facing businesses.
Concerning foreign affairs, Dung told that Hanoi has worked actively to integrate into the world, with priority given to international economic integration.
Hanoi has also paid special attention to putting the pandemic under control, he stated, adding that the city has safely adapted to the different development of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While expressing his thanks to EU member countries for donating COVID-19 vaccines through a mechanism for vaccine distribution called Vaccines Global Access (COVAX), Dung hoped that the EU would continue to support Vietnam and Hanoi in the fight against coronavirus.
He also expected that the EU would share with the capital city experience in circular economy, environmental protection, waste treatment, manpower training and cultural heritage preservation, among others.
For his part,  Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam Giorgio Aliberti appreciated the Government of Vietnam’s efforts in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and Hanoi’s in particular. He expressed his hope that the situation would soon normalize. 
Agreeing with Dung's initiatives, the ambassador stressed that EU members are willing to share experiences with the city in the fields. 
He wished that in the time to come, the two sides would speed up the European Management University project, the Urban Railway No. 3 project, and  reinforce their cooperation in cultural heritage conservation.
