The event to commemorate the 77th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (March 27, 1946 - March 27, 2023) was organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Hanoimoi Newspaper.
The program was attended by various officials, including Member and Vice Chairwoman of Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Physical Training and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, leaders and staff of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports. More than 3,500 participants, including schoolchildren, students, youth, elderly people, officials, workers, public servants, the armed forces, workers and city employees, also took part in the event, along with representatives of the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the Hanoi Municipal Olympic Committee.
At the opening ceremony, Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee, emphasized the importance of the Olympic Day Run for public health, as it continues to promote President Ho Chi Minh's teachings of "The people are strong, the nation is prosperous" and the ideals of the World Olympic Movement. The aim is to encourage people to do physical exercise in the spirit of Uncle Ho, which will improve physical health and contribute to the quality of human resources, the building of a healthy and cultural lifestyle and environment, and the consolidation of the great unity block of the whole people.
In addition, Ms. Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi City People's Committee, said that 100% of the districts, cities and towns have planned and implemented the Olympic Day Run, and more than 300,000 people are expected to participate. In addition, Hanoi has always been a leader in sports for everyone to high-performance sports. The city contributed 151 out of 446 medals of all kinds to the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 31st SEA Games, with 62 gold medals, 35 silver medals and 54 copper medals. This is a remarkable achievement in both quantity and quality of sports contributed by Hanoi to the Vietnamese sports delegation. On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day, Vice Chairwoman of the Municipal People's Committee Vu Thu Ha congratulated and wished that Hanoi's athletes and coaches will continue to contribute and dedicate themselves to physical training and sports and bring them to new heights.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoan, Vice Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, delivered a speech on the program, highlighting the specific tasks of the program, such as drawing the attention of the community and the people to regular exercise and sports, health protection, implementation of the City Party Committee's Program No. 06, and forming a team, organizing training, and participating in the final competition of the Hanoimoi Newspaper Run for Peace. Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hanoimoi Newspaper Nguyen Thanh Loi said that the 48th Open Hanoimoi Newspaper Run for Peace 2023 is an important mass sports event with a long tradition and prestige of sports in the capital. It provides a useful playground for athletes to gain experience and competition skills before entering major sports arenas. The Olympic Day Run for Public Health and the annual traditional Hanoi Newspaper Run also contribute to promoting exercise and sports habits among people from all walks of life.
