"For Traffic Safety of the Capital City” 2017 competition launched (15:32 04/04/2017)


HNP - The Kinh te do thi (Economics and Urban) Newspaper in collaboration with the Ha Noi Traffic Safety Committee under the city’s Department of Transportation and relevant sectors organized a ceremony to announce winners of the "For Traffic Safety of the Capital City” 2016 competition and launched the 2017 contest on April 1.

Attending the event were Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Committee Bui The Duc; Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan; Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen The Hung; Permanent Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists' Association Ho Quang Loi; Vice President of the National Traffic Safety Committee Khuat Viet Hung, among others.

Launched the first time in 2011, so far, the "For Traffic Safety of the Capital City” competition has drawn the attention and participation of a large number of people of Ha Noi and other provinces and cities across the country as well as foreigners working and living in the city.

Thanks to changes made to the structure of the contest over the last few years, the number of contestants has increased dramatically after five years since its inception. This year’s event drew the participation of 362 organizations, units and thousands of individuals with the total of as many as 111,500 articles, presentations and models on solutions to improve traffic in Ha Noi toward a safe and civilized capital city.

Participant comprises traffic specialists, managers, armed forces, teachers, students, youth, writers, journalists; civil servants, leading experts in urban planning and transport, etc.

Entries submitted came in various forms, including articles, interviews, comments, notes and examples of ensuring traffic safety, as well as photo reports, posters, and paintings, in the form of stories and poems with rhymes and melodies which are easy to read and remember.

Addressing the awards ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Nguyen The Hung congratulated winners of the competition; adding that, over the past five years the event played a major role in influencing the perception of all social classes, especially the younger generations, to raise people’s awareness when participating in traffic and building traffic culture in the capital city.

In 2017, National Traffic Safety Committee launched the Traffic Safety Year 2017, which focuses on building traffic culture among young people. This year’s campaign aims at reducing 5-10 percent of road and railway accidents and at least 5 percent of serious accidents on railway, inland waterway and coaches compared to the previous year.

It also looks to preventing traffic jams in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City as well as other main traffic lines to ensure the traffic order for Viet Nam APEC Year 2017 and other large-scaled events.

“To achieve these targets, information work is considered as one of the important solutions to raising people’s awareness and improving traffic safety,” he added.
 

He called for organizations, individuals, enterprises to join hands to respond to the “For Traffic Safety of the Capital City” program.

At the ceremony, the organizing board awarded a special, two first, three second, six third and 13 consolation prizes for winners of the 2016 contest. In addition, the city authorities presented certificates of merit to 12 units which have the highest number of submissions and presented 20 bikes to four schools in the area.
