Dien Hong flower garden has an area of 4,240 square meters, located in Trang Tien ward, at the intersection of Ngo Quyen - Ly Thai To - Le Phung Hieu streets, Hoan Kiem district. The garden was built by the French and completed in 1901 in memory of Deputy Governor General of Indochina Léon Jean Laurent Chavassieux (1848 - 1895).
After 1945, the flower garden was renamed Dien Hong Flower Garden. This is a flower garden with architectural value in the central area of Hanoi, and at the same time, plays an important role in connecting the complete architectural and landscape space of Ly Thai To flower garden, the State Bank square, the Sword Lake area and its vicinity (a special national historical relic), and many important works such as the Government Guest House, the headquarters of the municipal Party Committee, the headquarters of the City Confederation of Labor, Italian Cultural Center, Metropole Hotel.
Up to now, after nearly 120 years of existence, although it has been maintained and renovated many times, the garden had deteriorated and required substantial reparation.
Implementing the action plan between the Hanoi People's Committee and the lle-de-France Regional Council 2018-2021 and Document No. 2547/UBND-DT dated June 19, 2020 of the Hanoi People's Committee on the implementation of cooperation projects between Hanoi and Ile-de-France region (France), Hoan Kiem District People's Committee has coordinated with PRX Institute - Representative of Ile-de-France region (France) in Vietnam and DE-SO consulting unit (France) to study and build "Public space planning project and experiment with ecological green space management in Hoan Kiem district".
Hoan Kiem District People's Committee held a workshop to consult professional associations, experts and related departments on the project and received consensus, appreciation and consideration and approval by the City People's Committee.
Accordingly, Hoan Kiem District People's Committee has coordinated with relevant agencies and consulting units to research and complete the design plan of Dien Hong flower garden with the following scale: Restructuring the space of flower gardens and lawns with the focal point is the fountain, dividing the space between the central area and the periphery of the flower garden. The improvement of items includes: Paving the sidewalk and walkway with granite stones, adding trees and grass in the direction of planting low tree strips along the sidewalk to separate the flower garden space from the street; planting additional species of trees with high canopy, freeing vision towards the frontage of key works; Supplement and replace synchronous urban equipment including trash cans, seats, lighting system...
Hoan Kiem District People's Committee has completed the investment procedures as prescribed and started the work on October 5, 2022. After 3 months of construction, the flower garden has taken on a new, modern and civilized appearance while still maintaining harmony with the landscape and French-style architectural works.
