The event was hosted by the Hanoi City Party Committee, the People's Council, the People's Committee and the Committee of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front. During the ceremony, Le Tien, who represented the Liaison Department of Revolutionary Fighters Imprisoned by the Enemy in Hanoi, delivered a report on their struggles and activities while imprisoned in the Phu Quoc prison camp between June 1967 and March 1973. The report highlighted the brutal treatment and torture that over 40,000 revolutionaries endured in the prison, including beatings, torture with red-hot steel rods, broken teeth, pulled nails, and confinement in "tiger cages. Nevertheless, they remained resilient and determined, transforming the prison into a place of learning, establishing party organizations, unions and councils, organizing cultural activities and teaching revolutionary values. They even attempted to escape from the prison, scaring their captors.

At present, 864 revolutionary fighters who were imprisoned in the Phu Quoc prison camp are still living in Hanoi. Despite various difficulties, they continue to actively participate in local activities, especially those related to revolutionary traditions and charity work, as encouraged by the late General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh, who stressed the importance of being steadfast and indomitable while in captivity and leading a life of love and loyalty after release. During the meeting, the representative committee of revolutionary soldiers imprisoned by the enemy in Hanoi expressed their deep gratitude to the Party, the State and the leaders of Hanoi for providing them with preferential policies and caring for their material and spiritual lives.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to promote the revolutionary traditions and cooperate with the Party Committee, the government and the people of Hanoi to maintain national unity and contribute to protecting the Party and building the people's government. The aim is to ensure that Hanoi remains a peaceful city and the beloved heart of the country.

One fighter, Dao Duc Vien from Gia Lam District, said that for the resistance fighters imprisoned by the enemy, a day felt like a thousand years under the harsh conditions of imprisonment. However, the prisoners did not sit idle; the Party organization in each cell plotted against the enemy, defended their honor and dignity, and tried to escape in various ways. In fact, more than 300 prisoners safely escaped from the Phu Quoc prison camp and continued to fight. According to Vien, the 50th anniversary of the "victorious return" serves as a reminder of the days when they said goodbye to family and friends to answer Uncle Ho's call to fight for the sacred Fatherland. Unfortunately, many young fighters were captured, tortured and beaten by the enemy, but they remained steadfast and continued to fight for the eventual arrival of victory.

At the meeting, Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, paid tribute to the revolutionary soldiers imprisoned by the enemy in the Phu Quoc prison camp and wished them good health. She stressed that this commemoration has great significance as it expresses the affection and gratitude of the Party Committee, the Government and the people of the capital to the revolutionary soldiers imprisoned by the enemy. Tuyen said that the Party Committee, Government and people of Hanoi have inherited and promoted the glorious revolutionary tradition, overcome various difficulties and challenges, and continuously developed the capital into an increasingly prosperous, beautiful, civilized and modern city.
