In attendance were Vuong Dinh Hue, Politburo member, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, head of the National Assembly’s deputy delegation of Hanoi; Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee; Chu Ngoc Anh, PCC member, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee; Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council; Dao Duc Toan, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee; Nguyen Lan Huong, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Hanoi chapter, among others.
At the session, the members of the municipal People's Council agreed to dismiss Nguyen Duc Chung from the municipal government’s chairman position who was suspended from duties on August 11 for 90 days pending an investigation into his alleged involvement in a number of criminal cases.
Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh has been elected as the new chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee at the event with unanimous endorsement.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Chu Ngoc Anh said this is a major honor but also a huge responsibility, and vowed to, together with People’s Committee staff, try his best to serve the people.
He said that he would strive to continue to improve his qualifications, cultivate his ethics and actively listen to the voices of people and businesses in running the city.
In the present moment, Hanoi is working toward the 17th Party congress, the 1010th founding anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi, along with other important political tasks, the mayor stressed, noting that he would, together with People’s Committee staff, promote the spirit of solidarity and consensus and direct municipal authorities to continue following instructions of the municipal Party Committee and People’s Council.
Chu Ngoc Anh, 55, was born in Thai Hoa Commune, Ba Vi District, Hanoi. He holds a PhD degree in physics from Hanoi University of Science and Technology and has held various important positions in the Party and Government.
From 1988 to 1995, he was a lecturer at the Institute for Technical Physics under the Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
From 1995 to 1997, he worked at the Science and Technology Advances Application Company - MITEC under the Ministry of Industry and Environment and the Institute of Posts and Telecommunications Technology under the General Department of Posts.
From 1997 to 2003, he was deputy director, then director of the Institute of Posts and Telecommunications Technology under the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group.
From 2003 to 2010, he was staff, then Deputy Head of the Department on High-tech; Director of the Technology Application and Development Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
From August, 2010 to January, 2011, he was Deputy Minister of Science and Technology cum Director of the Technology Application and Development Department.
From January, 2011 to March, 2013, he was an alternate member of the 11th Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.
In March 2013, he was designated Deputy Secretary of the Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee and two months later appointed Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee.
He returned to the position of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in September 2015 and was promoted to Minister of Science and Technology from April 2016.
