Located on the campus of Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology, the museum has relatively small exhibition space but is designed in harmony, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. In particular, most of the specimens are on display in glass cases and models are placed outside.
The exhibition space displays the interesting story of life about 3.6 billion years ago with 3 exhibition areas as the origin of life, the history of life and life at the present time. Through a billion of years, from the simplest form of life that developed and evolved into the complex world of life today.
There is a wide range of specimens exhibited at the exhibition space, including animals (reptiles, amphibians, fish, mammals, birds, etc.), insects (butterflies, beetle, dragonflies, cicadas, mantis, etc.), fungi, plants, Terrain model, etc. The 3D movie room serves films of nature.
Main tasks of the museum:
- Collect and preserve natural specimens and manage the use of Viet Nam’s national collections of natural specimens for research and education;
- Organise galleries, exhibitions and other activities to educate the community about Viet Nam’s natural values;
- Conduct scientific research on the natural environment, protection plans and the sustainable use and development of natural resources in Viet Nam;
- Identify, classify and assess biological specimens, mineral geology, paleontology and other naturally derived specimens.
