Overseas Vietnamese - an inseparable part of the nation (22:03 29/01/2019)


HNP – The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ha Noi People’s Committee organized the Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) 2019 program on January 26th.

The event saw the attendance of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee, President Nguyen Phu Trong and his spouse; Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Pham Binh Minh; Politburo member and Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai; member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung. 
 
Other representatives of the Central’s ministries and sectors, localities nationwide, about 1,000 overseas Vietnamese were also in attendance. 
 
Delegates attend the program.
 
In his opening speech at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh partly attributed the country’s achievements to valuable and practical contributions of Vietnamese abroad. 
 
He said that each Vietnamese abroad served as an ambassador to foster the ties between Viet Nam and their second homeland as well as promote international integration, and sustainable national development. 
 
Extending Tet greetings to overseas Vietnamese, Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that the overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of the nation.

According to the President, in 2018, despite many difficulties and challenges, Viet Nam still gained remarkable achievements in all fields, creating a new motivation to fulfill all targets, missions in 2019 and for five-year tenure, 2016-2020. 
 
Music performances at the program
 
The General Secretary partly attributed the country’s achievements to valuable and practical contributions of more than 4.5 million Vietnamese abroad.
 
In recent years, about 300-500 oversea Vietnamese intellectuals have returned home to join activities in science-technology, education-training, building a start-up ecosystem, he added. In 2018, remittances to Viet Nam neared US$ 16 billion, or a more than 100-fold surge from 1993. 
 
Besides, the overseas Vietnamese community has played an important role in enhancing people-to-people exchanges in the innovation as well as introducing the images of Viet Nam abroad, contributing to improving its stature on international arena, Party General Secretary, President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized. 
 
The leader said the 2018 achievements have once again reaffirmed the power of great national unity, fostering trust and evoking patriotism and national pride.
 
On the occasion of upcoming Lunar New Year 2019, Party General Secretary, President Nguyen Phu Trong wished all Vietnamese people at home and abroad a healthy, happy, and successful New Year. 
 
At the program, the Party chief beat the drum to launch the 2019 spring festival. 
 
Participants enjoyed traditional and contemporary music performances by well-known artists at the event.
